About the Aid & Attendance Benefit.
The Veterans' Affairs has a little known secret called the Aid & Attendance Special Pension. The A&A benefit is a "pension benefit" meaning it is not limited to those with a service-related injury for compensation. A&A can assist with care in the home, assisted living facility or nursing home. Many veterans who are in need of assistance qualify to receive Aid & Attendance compensation.
Veterans are eligible for up to $1,632 per month, a surviving spouse is eligible for up to $1,055 per month and a couple is eligible for up to $1,949 per month. These figures are accurate as of 12/01/2008*.
There are additional benefits available through the Improved Pension plan. Should you and/or your spouse not qualify for the Aid & Attendance program, contact your VA representative for information on other levels of the Pension plan.
*Benefit amounts change from time-to-time. The VA should be contacted to confirm the current A&A benefit amounts.
